Your viewpoint of world affairs.
Briefs combine innovative journalism in an accessible and interactive form with your personal viewpoint of world affairs. They allow users to express their opinion on the quality of political decision-making at the global level. Submitting a Brief enables other users to vote, creating a poll on the quality of deliberation during a particular international event.
The quality of deliberation is rated with regard to the decision’s impact on the international system. Each Brief contains an overall score, represented by the average score of six variables: stability, sustainability, success rate, risk rate, cooperativeness and inclusiveness. The following variables allow us to give quantifiable ratings to decision-making at the international level, rather than simply assessing a policy’s domestic impact.
- Stability
Does the decision ameliorate the stability of the international system as a whole or does it lead to greater instability and increased tension?
- Sustainability
Is the decision durable and are there the necessary resources to maintain it over an extended period of time? - Success Rate
What are the chances that the decision will achieve its prefixed outcome? - Risk Rate
How large is the gamble involved in the decision and how drastic would the impact be if the outcome were negative? - Cooperativeness
Was the decision made along with a larger framework of actors and/or institutional arrangements? - Inclusiveness
Does the decision acknowledge, consider and respect the interests and identities of other parties? - Overall Score Performance
Average of the above variables, ranging from -3 to +3.
Briefs can be submitted both separately or along with a News piece.
